Why Electric Cars Are Getting More PopularThe problem with these first electric cars was that they were too costly to build and maintain. Also, the technology for large capacity power supply or batteries didn’t really exist. However, because of the concerns about global warming and the depletion and the rising cost of petroleum products, researchers and a majority of the population are now looking more closely at the concept of electric cars. This interest is also driven by the knowledge that electric cars can save a lot of money on gasoline at the same time as contributing to the overall well-being of the environment. Thanks to the latest development and research on battery cells, most of the obstacles that were faced by electric cars, in terms of becoming affordable and mainstream, are now a thing of the past. New batteries are a lot smaller and are also stronger, last longer and can also recharge a lot faster than in the past. Because batteries used in electric cars today weigh less, the power as well as the range of electric cars has significantly increased. In fact, it is even possible to go on a cross country trip with your electric car on just a single charge. The great thing about electric cars is that they are much easier to maintain. The reason for this is that the engine for electric cars has fewer moving parts when compared to a gasoline engine, and therefore there are fewer parts to break. A further benefit is that you no longer have to change the oil of the engine, as oil is no longer needed in the engine. As there is virtually no combustion going on inside the engine, electric cars run silently, which is another one of the reasons that they becoming more popular. At the most, all you hear is a silent hum. Everyone is also very concerned with the environment and global warming and, because of this, the federal government is now offering tax credits for anyone who purchases and uses electric or hybrid cars. So, aside from saving money on gas, there is also a saving on taxes when you buy an electric car. Electric cars are cleaner when they run, as they are 100 percent emission free because they do not burn gasoline or any other type of petroleum to run the car. This means that there will be no byproducts produced by burning gasoline, which significantly reduces pollution. Another factor that contributes to cheaper running costs is that producing electricity costs much less than producing, transporting, and refining petroleum products, such as gasoline and diesel. Electricity can be produced through solar panels, wind mills and other types of renewable source of energy. These are just some of the benefits and the reasons why electric cars are becoming more popular in today’s society. Aside from the huge savings from gasoline expenses, electric car owners also save a lot of money on maintenance as well as tax at the same time as contributing to a cleaner environment.
